The Question To Ask Yourself For Sustainable Weight Loss

Hi there! Welcome back, and thanks for having me in your sacred inbox! This week I want to talk about the most important method that needs to be implemented for sustainable weight loss. Now, I know what you may be thinking: gosh Emily, there is SO much information out there about weight loss and I never know what to follow! Everyone says they are an expert and promise weight loss with their methods. How do I know what to do? Here’s the thing- weight loss can actually be really simple, but your brain makes you think otherwise. The cool thing is that you already have everything you need to lose weight. Yep, that’s right! No purchasing fancy equipment, shakes, pills, or particular calorie curated meals to your doorstep. All you need is a brain and a stomach. Think about hundreds of years ago. How did our people know when to eat? I’m 100% certain they didn’t have MyFitnessPal, a points system, or an expert on the googles telling them what and how much to eat. They had a brain and a stomach. Let’s think back to those times for a minute. So, here it is. The most important method you can use to help you lose weight for the long term: Eat when you are hungry, stop before you are full. I’m serious. No particular grocery list, juice cleanse or exercise regimen. Sounds simple, right? Well, it is if you haven’t been brainwashed by diet culture like most of us have. Most of us (including myself) have yo-yo dieted so much that our hunger and fullness cues are completely misconstrued because we are encouraged to ignore when we are hungry, restrict foods, and engage in scarcity eating. To get back in tune with our signals takes time, patience and practice. As a weight loss coach I help clients to regain trust in their hunger and fullness signals. I promise it is possible to hear them again- you just have to learn to listen. So, this week I would like you to try this just one time: before you pick up food to eat, ask yourself: "am I hungry right now"? I hope this helps. As always, if you have any questions, comments or feedback, please email me! -Emily P.s. In my Comprehensive 12-week Weight Loss Program, I guide clients toward a mindset change around food that helps to fine tune their hunger and fullness signals. Please email me if you would like more info on this!
